Ella is a 5-year-old Australian Cattle Dog, weighing just 33 lbs. She was hit by a car.

She is a nursing mama. Her body is still producing milk for puppies she cannot reach. She is lactating – her body is still preparing to feed puppies that are not there.

She is injured, scared, and alone in a shelter. She is in pain. She is confused. And somewhere out there, her puppies are waiting for a mother who may never come back.

Ella’s Medical Condition

Ella was brought to OC Animal Care as a stray on July 25, 2026, after being hit by a car. She is lactating – she has been nursing puppies.

Her injuries include:

• Road rash with skin wounds
• Head trauma
• Soft tissue pain
• Right forelimb lameness (grade 2/4) – affecting her ability to walk
• Perivulvar region road rash
• Lactating – her body is still producing milk

X-rays show no fractures – no broken ribs, no broken limbs, no spinal fractures.

Prognosis: Guarded.

She does not need surgery. But she needs pain management, wound care, and time to heal in a safe environment.

The shelter has provided basic care – pain medication, wound cleaning, and monitoring. But the shelter is not the right place for her to heal. This breed does worse in a shelter environment. She needs rescue.
