High Alert! Medical Shepherd A1976813 Evy

Overall: Evy shows a stark contrast between defensive aggression with some handlers and friendly, cooperative behavior with another. The shelter’s official recommendation remains rescue placement due to safety concerns.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY
Evy required immediate medical treatment upon arrival at the shelter, requiring removal of a mass. Since her arrival, she has displayed high levels of fear and defensive aggression, often growling, baring teeth, snarling, or charging forward when attempts are made to interact with her. Despite appropriate amount of decompression time and attempts at building rapport through positive interactions, Evy has made no progress behaviorally and shows an unwillingness to engage with handlers, with rapid escalation to bite attempts. We are recommending placement with rescue at this time, Evy is unsafe for public adoption and a staff safety risk.
09/13/26 17:05 Approached kennel for rescue video/photo footage. Evy was growling. When I first acted like I was going to enter her kennel, she lifted her lip at me and showed her teeth. She did eventually retreat to the other side of her kennel and laid down. I entered the side of Evy’s kennel away from where she was. She then quickly came up to me with her tail wagging loosely. When I knelt down, she became more friendly and happy. Allowed pets, kept a slow/even tail wag, and leaned up against me. No issues leashing her and taking her to the yard just outside building 1. Possibly potty trained, urinated and defecated right away quite a bit. Evy was walking around and looking around. Possibly looking for a potential escape. No aggression shown towards me in the yard during the several minutes we were out there. No issues leashing Evy back up. I then walked her up to a couple of dogs in nearby kennels and Evy was not reactive, even when the other dogs became reactive. No issues returning Evy to her kennel and removing leash.
09/14/26 14:35 I was filming dog in next door kennel today. Afterwards, I approached Evy’s kennel when she seemed to be sleeping. She knew her name when I said it and she got up. Seemed to possibly remember me from yesterday, immediately was wagging tail and wanted to go outside. No issues leashing or walking her to the play yard closest to her kennel. Urinated and defecated right away quite a bit like yesterday (seems potty trained). Still was looking up/around in yard for quite a bit (seemingly looking for a possible escape route). But would come to me more today in the yard for pets. Allowed pets and pats on head and down her back with tail wagging. No issues in yard nor when leashing her back up and returning her to her kennel and removing leash.
